David Spade helps Phoenix police buy rifles

I don't know his stance on 2A issues but this is a nice gesture.

    From Associated Press
    December 22, 2008 6:03 PM EST

LOS ANGELES - The Phoenix Police Department has gotten some high-powered goodies courtesy of actor David Spade.

The one-time Phoenix resident donated $100,000 so that the department can buy approximately 50 AR-15 rifles.

Spade said he wanted to make the donation after seeing a TV news report about Phoenix officers having to buy their own rifles. Spade grew up in the Phoenix area and graduated from Arizona State University.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Alan Hill says the rifles will be given to patrol officers and that the agency was grateful for the gifts.

"These guys need to be able to do their jobs and I am just happy I could help," Spade said in a statement released by his publicist.

That is awesome. I guess now he will not be getting any new roles in any upcoming movies. The anti's in Hollywood will not tolerate such actions.

That is great! I do not know if we can determine his views from his gesture, but no need. The action speaks volumes. As previous poster stated, his days in Hollywood may be numbered. Or yet, could the trend in Calif be shifting? One could only hope.

True, but neither will he be getting any tickets in Phoenix...

At least he DID something other than give them lip service like so many others do.

MIT had this laptop program, where you would buy one and pay to have a second one donated to a third world country. I think they could have a similar program for guns. For each one you buy, you could elect to buy a second one like it for your local PD :-)

I thought that, too. It was probably just from all the movie roles he played as such. Whatever his stance... good work.

    Good for him!

One question though, $100K and only 50 rifles? I'm hoping that includes some copes and ammo too.
