Hmmm

Never cared to much for the paramilitary law enforcement trotted out for public display in non-emergency non-crisis situations. Sort of reminds me of the S.A. using intimidation and thug tactics. Having seen this; now, I dislike the paramilitary police effect even more.

Nice camera work regardless of the subject

Except that I don't know what S.A. abbreviates, I would agree that I dislike the paramilitary look in civilian police. And it might even reduce security.

All those guys with guns in paramilitary camo; city police, FBI, SS, 50 agencies.... you can't check all the officers and know they aren't themselves a threat. More than one VIP has been taken by his own guards.

The camo and uniforms could provide opportunity for a group of nuts to dress the part and get by--armed. Yick :-- It needs some rethinking.

Agreed bbqgrill. Good pics Tyler, and I love those guys and respect what they do... Wouldn't mind getting into something similar myself after the army. But it is rather reminiscent of certain things.

Am I the only one who thinks the different uniforms make them look less... professional? I think the guys in the last pic look better suited to their duties than camo-guys. They're playing security, so appearance actually matters.

the camo is just the regular cold weather gear, im sure thats all they had for the cold weather there, as hard as it is to get were there at i dont care what they wear, ive got a ton of respect for all of those guys.

I like the gun .... and the EOTech site, etc. ... looks like a light on the side, 7" barrel.....

Oh yeah, to the guys who are bent out of shape about what they are wearing... what do you want them to wear?
Matching uniforms. :image035:

Just to be clear, it's not a comment whatsoever about ability. I have no doubts at all as to their ability. But they're being used in a security capacity, right? Which means they're supposed to be visible, meaning people are supposed to see them. They're on display (which is the point of security). If you've got a group that's uniform, and a group that's eclectic, all other things being equal the first group is going to look more organized. More professional. Same reason you shave or trim before a photo-op, you know?

On the TV there were uniformed men at attention in a line among the crowd, dressed in black, with armbands that read "USHE." Couldn't make out if they were armed. Who were these dudes?

Well, it's good to know I can always come to DC when I need my daily dose of knee-jerk anti-LE/anti-government paranoia... :)

I guess you should all write letters to Congress and get them to increase the FBIs funding so that they can buy Gortex jackets in a variety or colors and styles - it's obviously very upsetting to the public that they are using the same patterns that the military used to use. Actually, I suppose we should just take their cold-weather gear away, much better they be cold and inefficient rather than all scary looking. We'd better ban all ARs and AKs while we're at it, though, 'cause they sure are scary looking - whenever I see one I am reminded of third world nations on the brink of revolution and/or collapse. I don't like to be scared, so you should all change...

Also, the point of security is not just "to be seen". Overt security is certainly a part of the complete package, but it is far from the only part. Obvious security can be defeated or circumvented; if a security measure can't be seen, it can't be beaten. This is the security event of the century - trust me when I say that there were plenty of people and measures that weren't so obvious.

Speaking of, if THIS event didn't warrant a robust security presense, what would? Seriously...sometimes some of you might need to slow down, take a deep breath, and think about things. The world isn't out to get you, and once in a while (just once in a while) there are actually reasons for things that you might not see.

What does war have to do with this?

+1 OPFOR, there were also counter-snipers/snipers, whatever you want to call them on the lincoln memorial and on various other buildings, and you better believe some of those "citizen" looking people in the crowd at the innauguration were working the beat as uc's. this is a big thing, and you know that more people want to hurt this man than any other president, if that wasent obvious already. and this reminds me nothing of the nazi SA, because the FBI doesnt drag people out of their dwellings and blow there brains out on the street, while their children watch, which the SA and SS routinely did. A very good friend of mine was talking to me about his great-grandfather and how he was drug out into a street and when he stood up and resisted the SS (ShutzStaffle) blew his head off, so now i dont see even a close comparison with the FBI and SA or SS.

Yes, I agree ~They look way too scary.
Those frightening looking rifles should also be painted a different color. Something pastel I think would be better.
Possibly since we are going to be "going green" now...a real springtime looking pale green would be good.
Pastel green is the New Black anyway.
At least some color more symbolic of the new rebirth of our nation.
I personally would feel so much better if they would just wait until there was an actual catastrophic terror attack...and then how much extra trouble would it be for them just to run home real quick and change clothes before they respond? After all the people really want CHANGE so they can run home and CHANGE. :slap:
