    local jail

well i went in the other day and talked to the jailer, and got the job. im getting sworn in, and starting this coming tuesday which is pretty nice. i figured id throw some pics up of my rig that i went out and bought, most of it is G&G and an Uncle Mike's Pro 3 slimline that i did some tinkering with to carry my 1911 cocked and locked.

If you're in any position to be around and near folks that might want to relieve you of your sidearm look into getting something more secure for a holster. Level II would be the minimum level III or IV even better. Look into Safariland, blackhawk and such.... and then train drawing from that holster.

You just talk to the jailer and get hired? Wow! Out here it is a lengthy process followed by an academy.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Not to dispute you, but in my 25+ years of LE,
Ive never seen a corrections officer in the faculty a carry firearm.
Now the officer that escorts the road clean up crew, yes.

How were you able to circumvent the normal hiring process? Wouldn't that be a County job?

If so, I second the advice of getting a much more secure holster. You are getting traing with all the gear you will be carrying as well as the job basics, right?

    Our jailers don't tote.
Even when going in to deliver a prisoner, we have to put our guns in a lock box before entry. That goes for any and everyone. Even the Sheriff wont carry his gun in there.

You guys do realize that he is in Kentucky, and there are probably quite a few small town jails? They may not have to go through the procedures that us in larger areas do.

Dude... seriously... if the jail has/allows you to carry, I wouldnt work there. This flys in the face of every standard procedure nationwide.

True, but smaller depts. just gotta do what they gotta do...

I dropped off a prisoner at a small town here, the guy was the jailer, dispatcher, secretary, janitor, banker and spent the night on a cot there where he slept so that he could keep charge of the prisoners. He had to keep them fed and happy.

    A true one stop shop...
