Memories of the Northern Ireland Troubles

It has little if any baring on those of you who serve in the U.S.A, but an Officer anywhere is a brother and deserving of our respect.

Thanks for sharing this story. I have friends across the pond, and visit whenever I can. I continue to hope that the worst of the troubles are behind us. I'm encouraged that the peace process has such wide support, but realize on what a tenuous thread it hangs.
    Cheers,

    irish,

I am so sorry to hear of the killings. There has been too much of this for far too long. I hope and pray that this is not a harbinger of a return to The Troubles and those sad days.

Being 2nd Generation Irish American (family came from County Wexford in 1890), I firmly believe that Ireland should belong solely to Ireland.

That being said, I also believe that violence is not the way to gain that Independence.

R.I.P. Brother your watch has ended, may you find Peace in your journey.

I had really begun to think that all of that was over with.
I really was surprised to hear of all this again.

The troubles will probably NEVER end until Ireland is a whole and sovereign nation.

I was stationed in England in the late 70's when the IRA was blowing crap up all over.I really hope they can find peace someday so people don't have to live in fear of just doing daily stuff.IIRC the violence was drawn along religious lines Catholics vs. Protestants and there political views

Cheers to a completely free Ireland! But the violence must not start again...

PS - I'm glad the NI Police are armed, like their RUC predecessors. The Garda are still defenseless...

But isn't it just the Irish way to understate things...
