When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

Its always sad to see an icon retire. I've been a taken a few places on a C141.
Here is a good follow up that gives a little history along with the sappy stuff.

Went up in a few of them, but never landed in one. :D

As a AF maintainer I spent many long hours working C-141's and C-5's. While my first aircraft love was the C-5's, the c-141 was a work horse. Even with it's small cargo compartment and underpowered engines it chugged along and got the job done. The old girl deserves her rest.
Sorry to see her go. I spent more time riding C-130's, but the 141 was a queen compared to them.
Took one flight on a C-141; that was a medevac. I do hate to see the C-141 go.
I had no idea the C-141 was being retired, sorry to see it go. I jumped out of more than one.
I spent many hours flying all over this planet in a C-141 Starlifter, in the original short version and the extended version. To the South Pole, Europe, SEA, and Pacific. She deserves a well earned rest.![]()

I didn't know they were getting rid of those. But I guess they made the decision in 2006. I knew the Navy is getting rid of P3s down the line here pretty soon. It makes me sad seeing these old birds being scrapped, but I suppose every machine is good for only so long before something better comes along. Is there something replacing it? Oh I see the C-17 Globemaster III. Anyway, RIP C-141.

Flew to Germany once in one, and back and forth to Kwajalein in The Marshall Islands. Sorry to see the old '141 go...![]()
