    US-Mexico Border, Drugs and Weapons

I was flipping through channels last night on the idiot box and happened to see Anderson Cooper interview some dude who claimed to be part of one of the Drug Cartels from Mexico. The Cartel rep. was disguised under a ski mask and Cooper made it a point to cover the fact that the guy feared the repercussions if ever identified.

    My question(s) are as follows:

    1. We all know that tons of drugs come from south of the border to poison our country, and contend that no user is forced to smoke weed or snort a few rails. What makes March of 2009 any different from any other date throughout the history of man?

    2. The claim that all cartels get 90% percent of the weapons from the US seems overexaggerated to me. If I cannot find an AR-Lower or the parts to assemble an AR (being a legally qualified CW permit holder), how are these idiots gettings their hands on the goods? If the weapons provided to the cartels were stolen, wouldn't there be news coverage detailing the enormous amount of stolen weapons in the areas where the weapons are being stolen? I am not aware of any large AK or AR heists within the last few years.

My third point is something more along the lines of conspiracy theory. Are the politicians (and of course the media) trying to convey more of a problem to US citizens to further efforts to seize control of legally owned guns and push their agenda for stricter gun control? It seems awful convienient to me that all of a sudden NOW we have problems in Mexico and it seems the guns (and hippie potheads) are being blamed.

See my thread on Greta last night. Same stuff. Yes, they are lying about the weapons in an effort to futher their gun grabbing agenda.

I hear you on your points and agree. I would add that you nailed it when you identify the current buzz in the media as contrived. Everything we're hearing right now is propaganda to forward a liberal agenda.

I totally get the arguments about demand side "cause" for the drug market, however, I disagree that this demand is the sole or even primary factor in the supply. Only a liberal would blame the US for both the drug running and the guns used to support it.

The sophists are having their day, the sheep are lapping up the BS in rare form and I hope it continues a little longer. For there to be a strong backlash and solid victory for common sense and real Americans in the fall of 2012 there needs to be some fodder. Right now we're getting a steady supply of Marxist Populist policy to use against the Kenyan and his tribe.

I agree with Limbaugh that it is only the Real American that will hope for failure of this administration, because, this man and his Marxist, Socialist, Commie ilk are NOT THE USA. Anything that fails from this administration is a win for the US. So let the Arkanyankee witch keep running her pie hole and blaming the US citizen for a third world cesspool of killers. In the long run this rhetoric and action will advance the Right cause.

There are already some early signs of backlash. The Washington Post had five (yes, Five!) editorials that were critical of Obama on the same day (early this week), and there are two more today. From the liberal writers of the establishment, no less.

The pendulum will swing, and may the 2A survive even the lame attempts to villify and demonize guns.

Don't you know, all of the automatic weapons are coming from the US, because you can buy a full auto AK-47 at the gun shop for $400. I know because my buddy at the bar told me......

Let me see a likely low ranking dude in a gang talks to the media about their operations. I bet all of the bosses talk about their sources, right?

I bet the average soldier in the US army couldn't tell where their guns came from. I suspect rumour and talltales are very common in the gang world.

Living near the border has become an adventure. Look at my thread on helping get a car thief last week. It is a fast dash from Tucson to Naco.

Let's say they are getting weaons from the U.S. (they're NOT), but where are they getting ammo?

I want to know their sources......they certainly aren't getting it from Central Florida.

Just wanted to those in this post who brought up the point on how legal citizens in the US are having trouble acquiring the same firearms that are allegedly flooding Mexico from the US. Also the question of where the ammo is comming from (as we can't get it).

I had not though of this, and I was in a conversation Friday, this bit of logic worked to shut someone up.

This whole "War on Drugs" thing that has been ongoing for the past 2 decades has done nothing but create a huge black market. This is the source of the violence. Prohibition style policies creating a powerful criminal subculture.

Where there is a will, there is a way. There is not a single thing that is illegal that you cannot find, buy, or build. This goes for the USA and Mexico.

Very well said; unfortunately you hit it right on the head.

Every crisis is an excuse to increase the power of government (See 9/11).

The more "wars" our rulers can declare (drugs, poverty, terrorism, etc.) the more our government can justify the increase in its budgets and keep us in fear.

The two main forces at play here are not conservative and liberal. The real struggle is, and always has been, between liberty and power.

If you want to stop the cartels, drugs must be re-legalized. See The Economics of Prohibition.

Let's just trade them. We'll take one weapon for each of their illegals they take back. Win-win!

And don't forget the latest and greatest government crisis - the bad debt bailout. I wrote my senators and congressperson last September and after the AIG blowup. Time for a new sig.
