    stolen Cessna from Canada

Is anybody besides me concerned that we allow a stolen Cessna plane from Canada fly for over 5 hours through the heartland of our country?

I guess we have to wait on proof of people dying on the ground from nerve gas before we'd take action.
It just seems to me this incident could have been catastrophic. If he'd had nerve/chemical agents on board, and spewed them out over all these states, hundreds of thousands would have died.

I know it would be a tough decision to shoot down this plane, but at what risk?
I'm really concerned for the security of our borders and how we'll handle a situation like this when it happens again.

I personally think it should have been shot down before allowing it to make it that far into our country.

If loose gun laws are good for criminals why do criminals support gun control?

He was hoping to be shot down...he was suicidal:

Federal prosecutors have charged a Canadian flight student with piloting a stolen plane into the U.S. in what they say was a suicide attempt.

Thirty-one-year-old Adam Dylan Leon was charged Tuesday with transportation of stolen property and illegal entry.

According to the federal complaint, Leon said he flew the plane into the U.S. expecting to be shot down by military aircraft. The complaint says Leon told authorities he recently was being treated by a psychiatrist.
Authorities say Leon flew the plane for six hours Monday night before landing it on a rural Missouri road when it started to run out of fuel.

He was trailed along the way by military jets.

Yeah, I have a problem with this.

The terrorists have more ideas now thanks to the inaction of our "protectors"
It would have been no problem @ all for him to drop anything out of that plane.

I do believe they were monitoring the plane, including by thermal equipment.

What an odd story, at any rate. Apparently he was "glad" he was caught and the officers describe him as really nice and cooperative. Crazy Canadians! (I'm just kidding for all the canadians on the board).

And I'm not sure of the logistics of delivering a chemical or biological agent from a small Cessna, as far as how easy it is. It also seems that he didn't really encroach on urban airspace, which is one of the reasons they were just monitoring him. Otherwise they probably would have shot him down. Doesn't make sense to spray agent on a field in the middle of nowhere.

Hmmmm, so if I get this right a man of middle Eastern descent steals an airplane and flies into our country? Has anyone else ever heard of probing?
It is surely true that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. Nor can you make them grateful for your efforts.

Sounds like a 'test run flight'...

I guess if I was suicidal, getting shot down by an F16 is a pretty cool way to go. I think the guy should get some credit for innovation.

ummm, yeah but you know how many very large cities he flew within range of?

we found out he was suicidal AFTER the fact....thats the problem, there are any number of possibilities for a scenario like this

it doesn't matter if they were monitoring the plane...even with thermal equipment....that doesn't address the problem

frankly I'm that this was handled in this manner

My question is how long after he entered US airspace was he intercepted by the Air Force? If it was quickly I don't know if I have a problem. If they saw him release anything or approach a populated area they would have shot him down.

Do you feel that any or every aircraft should be automatically shot down if we don't know why they enter out airspace?
