    The American's Creed

The American's Creed was written in 1917 by William Tyler Page of Maryland. It was his submission to a nationwide contest held during World War One for the best summary of American political faith.

He won the contest, and used the $1,000.00 prize to buy Liberty Bonds, which he gave to his church.

The U.S. House of Representatives accepted the Creed on behalf of the American people in 1918.

Sadly, I'm afraid there are few Americans today, including our elected representatives, who know of the Creed's existance.

    The American’s Creed

I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a Republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect Union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.

I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

    Rudyard Kipling

I'll be honest that I never heard of it. After reading it I'd say they don't know about it either.

Its a shame that youth is wasted on the young.

Excellent post Captain Crunch! I'll be passing this along to many..
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

I really believe that the vast majority of Americans feel that way. Even lots of non Americans recognize that this country is something special in the history of man. Our founding fathers were absolutely brilliant men, far ahead of their time.
