I had the honor to be on a burial detail for one of my friends who was killed in action in the War on Terror.
He was from a little town in Ohio.
The whole town rallied around his return home and internment.
I still miss Keith, even after several years. I did not know him as well as others did, but he made an impact on me.
It was one of the hardest details I've ever been on, but the support of the town and his family gave me the courage to remain stoic. Even when I would have rather broke down and cried. I kept my tears for the time that I was alone in my hotel room.
What an honor it must have been to have served in that funeral procession. It's just too bad that so many in our country have forgotten what sacrifices have been made in their name.....
Rest In peace, Sarge....Yours will not be forgotten in my home.

As a member of the S.E. Texas Patriot Guard I have had the privelege to honor many of our country's fallen hero's such a Ssgt. Beale. Thank you for your service in the defense of our country Ssgt. You may stand down now, your watch is done. A grateful nation, state, and community welcomes you home.
I was just amazed at the number of people who turned out....town after town.
It did my heart good to see patriotic Americans paying respect to a fallen hero.
This is the America that I grew up in, the America that I know.
I am PROUD to be an American.
I am proud of my country.
And I am proud and humbled by our brave military men and women.
I get so sick and tired of Obama trotting around Europe and apologizing for America, like he is ashamed to be called an American.
I am so sick and tired of Obama sucking up to leaders of terrorist nations.
I REALLY needed to see this video.
We may have an un-American president, but patriotism is alive and well in the good 'ol U.S. of A.

We unfortunately have the same thing on this side of the border called the Highway of Heroes. So named for the last journey from the airport to the final resting place.
This is not an attempt to hijack the thread. This video is also worth watching, especially at the end to see the faces of these six young men that will not be returning to their loved ones.

I can't see anything, my stupid monitor went blurry about half way through it.
Seeing the love that others show the fallen gives me hope for our country.

It's good to know that the American people are still behind service members and appreciate the sacrifices made for them. Quite a tribute in my mind. I've seen a few military funerals, and most of them had similar showings by the populace.
And I think the Patriot Guards are a great group, and very thankful that they were in force at one of my good friends funerals (I couldn't make it to that one, but my mother relayed the event to me.)
I've never had to do a burial detail, but I'm sure it would be a struggle to keep a dry eye through the whole ceremony, it's a hard thing to do at a memorial service held by the unit when a Marine is lost.
