    Unfortunately, we have shown our thanks by forgetting the hard lessons they learned from the teachings of war and tried to pass on to us.....

    They were drowned out by the Hippie generation. Hopefully, we will start remembering this stuff as we delve into the lives they led, but I doubt it.

    +1 and then some.

    The only way we can thank them is to remember them and their sacrifices for this republic.

    These men were "The Greatest Generation". Thank God we still can field more like them as evidenced by the heroes of Korea,Vietnam,Lebanon,Grenada,Panama,Desert Storm,Somalia,Kosovo,Afghanistan, Iraq and some places we've never heard of.

    The Greatest Generation is passing too quickly, something like 4000 per day. If you know or are related to a WW2 veteran, ask him or her to write down their recollections. We need this oral history, and when they're gone, it will be lost forever.

    RIP, "Shifty" Powers.

    For those that have watched Band Of Brothers, you'll remember that "Shifty" Powers was selected to rotate home early. On the way to the port of embarkation, he was seriously injured in a truck crash. Poor guy spent the next six months in the hospital.

    From this day to the ending of the world,
    But we in it shall be remembered,
    We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
    For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
    Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
    This day shall gentle his condition;
    And gentlemen in countries now a-bed
    Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not there,
    And hold thier manhoods cheap while any speaks
    That fought with them upon WWII

    This is something I truly hate to hear. I really figured soon to hear of the death of Richard Winters. He looked frail last time I seen him talk.

    Band of Brother is the only moving picture that has made me cry openly. I honor those men of WWII. I honor all of them for their sacrifice. Not only of their sacrifice of service, but for sacrificing their entire lives which were sometimes terribly scarred with pain and nightmares.

    Gods Speed "Shifty" Powers.

    May his sole rest with the greatest of men...we must never forget these brave americans and the things they tried to teach us.

    As a member of the latest generation, we must strive to understand the teachings of those that came before us. We cannot allow all the distractions and corruption of today's world to take our attention away from the really important issues.
