Read up on the Civil War; we are far less restrained and far less unified today.

It isn't that we are some foreign body, but the guns they will be pointing towards be their uncle, brother, son, daughter or father. We may find ourselves that our military will disobey their orders to kill their own countrymen .
Posse Comitatus precludes the use of Military against citizens. Also, it is the duty of every person in the military to "disobey" an "unlawful" order.

I hate to say it, but there are so many sheep out there that they may just do nothing and all will be lost. Remember that even during the colonial days, 1/3 wanted a revolution, 1/3 didn't and 1/3 didn't care either way.

Personally, I hope that we can stop this peacefully by 2010 and again in 2012.

Manan got it right about Posse Comitatis and lawful orders, however, I'm afraid of two things - 1. A lot of individuals in our armed forces would follow any order, lawful or not. 2. I think thats why they want a civilian military force. Have you not seen a kiss up in the military or where you work that would go along with the boss no matter how it affects the employees. Be aware and be prepared.

I fear all of you expressing similar thoughts may be a bit optimistic. Thanks to our federalized education system too many of the youth of this country (who make up the bulk of "The Troops") are ignorant of the constitution. When I was working at a Missouri university I was asked to give a guest lecture to a political science class concerning the Missouri referendum on concealed carry. Before I started I held up a copy of The Federalist Papers and asked for a show of hands if any of the 30 or so students there had ever read it; nothing but blank stares; I asked if anyone knew what it was; more blank stares.

Recently while working at a gun shop/indoor range I was talking to a full time sergeant in the National Guard and on the subject of confiscating private firearms he said “I wouldn’t like it but I would do my duty”. I looked him in the eye and said “When I took that oath it was to uphold and defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign AND domestic”. All I got was a blank look. I am afraid I do not have that much faith in the federally educated (indoctrinated) youth of this country.

Posse Comitatus is a law made by man. Do not think that the laws of man won't be broken for the corrupt and powerful to become more powerful. Besides, congress could easily pass legislation bypassing Comitatus. Think it can't happen? Then how in the heck did the foolish spending bills get passed? Answer, those in power care not one whit about what the masses want. There is no question the Fed is out of control at this point. The question that remains is if the unfortunate comes to pass and the union fails. I hope that day never comes.

im not certain of that myself. i know theres an enormous force of our best brightest and most experienced soldiers that still remember that oath. and while that nought but pretty words on paper we will protect the peice of paper we swore to defend.

not to mention any dumb butter bar(or anyone else for that matter) tells me to turn my weapon on the citizenry is not only issueing an illegal order but is also commiting a war crime and thus i am no longer legaly or moraly obligated to listen to them.

    Many people see it.
Its no longer a matter of "if" but its a matter of "when".

There will be those that will argue that it will never happen here, but when it does they wont last long.

There is a reason I have a SERE logo on my name. Hence I will survive... will you? Just make sure you have what you need whether you need it not. It is better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

I used to think survivalist were insane whacko's until I started reading books like Atlas Shrugged and reading about the in depth writings about the founding fathers. Im very scared but not without hope.

It will take a martyr to spark a true revolution, so until that happens....

That is what I consider to be one of the three most important changes that needs to be instituted in our country if it is to survive.
There needs to be a school choice option available in our elementry/high schools because the federal sponsored and liberal teachers union run schools have so dumbed down our kids trying to push their socialistic agenda. They no longer teach of the reasons our country was founded. They denegrate our founding fathers, belittle or ignore the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence while they praise the concept of equality in all things and belittle capitalism. Many schools have minimized the concept of competition and rewarding success in an effort to save the lazy from having their feelings hurt because they did not make the honor roll. What do we get for it. We get students graduating high school illiterate and citizens in general that believe they are deserving of the rewards of success even though they don't earn it. And if the government gives it to them, all the better. What has this country come to?
    God help us.

This is true, simply because nothing lasts forever. EVENTUALLY the US will degenerate into tyranny; it could be 10 years or it could be 200. Either way all good citizens should be prepared for the day.

Personally I think it is the duty of every sworn LEO and military member to study the Constitution as a part of following their oath. To swear to defend something, you must first know what you are defending. I am very glad to see so many fine military and LEO here who take their oath seriously.

Times have indeed changed, especially in our schools. I can fondly remember my school days, My english teacher, Mr. Ehlert, always had the current copy of Guns and Ammo.
My art teacher, Mr. Stansell, enthusiastically helped me with my sculpture entitled "The gun that made the twenties roar" in honor of the Thompson. Mr. Reese helped those in woodworking build stocks for their hunting rifles. During it all, there was not a single case of a teacher having sex with a student.

Thaks for the post Ex. All Americans should be aware of these issue and be prepared to respond when the time comes, whether by voting or by other means. Alas, I fear that far too many of our fellow citizens have not only drank too much Kool-Aide, and many are now just inhailing it in powdered form to realize the damage this administration is doing to our country.

The troops at MY LAI (Pronounced ME LIE) murdered a whole bunch of helpless civilians when Calley started the shooting. Yeah, they were "enemy" civilians and not Americans but what about all those national guardsmen down in Louisiana after Katrina. THEY said that the USA wasn't Iraq but they did it anyway.
