    I see he lived but looks like his injury may be permanent,not as permanent as death tho

    There was a similar story in Nam. This one was about an ARVN soldier. they did sandbagged him and managed him as an "expectant" casualty; the next day the dude was still alive. the RPG in this case was intact and the warhead was undetonated. same staff ... surgeon, EOD guys, and ancillary surgical staff. the patient lived and the surgeon received the Bronze star for his efforts.

    modern rendition in the one in Afghanistan but no less heroic.

    Glad everything went smoothly (sort of)...

    Yup! Only in the Vietnam case the ordnance was a 60mm mortar. There are some pictures and the story here:
