    Drug and Bomb Dogs Tomorrow

Hey guys and gals, just wanted to let yall know what I get to be a part of tomorrow.

Well I have been taking a course with the U.S. Customs & Border Patrol. Tomorrow I will be certified as a Customs Border Control Agent. I know it far from the full time guys who do this for a living, but it has been a wonderful experience.

Anyway, tomorrow we will get to train with a working Drug dog and a Bomb locating dog. Our instructors have told us to bring our cameras and be ready for an exciting day. This will be my first experience with working dogs and I am very excited that I was chosen to attend this course and get certified.

I would love to work with the U.S. Customs & Border Patrol when I get home. Maybe this is a start. But I will post later with my experience and pictures.. Just wanted to share this with you..

That's really cool. I didn't even know they had a program like this set up.

I can't wait to hear about your day!

I think you're in for a great day and possibly a new future.
If you can take some pics (probably not), how about sharing the experience?

    Enjoy, and stay safe!

Yes, please share what you can about the training.

I, for one, would like to know if they now have both working together. Back in my day we didn't. The drug dogs were trained to signal aggressively -- shaking, pawing, etc.

Didn't want the "bomb" dogs learning unhealthy habits from them.

Well I must say that watching both these dogs work was an awesome experience. I have never seen dogs that were so well trained.

When told to heel, man they just responded to the handlers every command. And when the dog got a hit on narcotics, it was something watching him respond. You knew right then he hit on something.

When searching a suspect, the suspect tried resisting and BAM
the dog was on him.. This was something that I wish everyone had a chance to experience.

I didnt get to wear the entire suit like bikerrn, but still it was a great day..

Here is some of the Pics. this was conducted inside a training building, so you really didnt get the true force of the dogs attack, but when he locked down on the sleve, you knew he was there!!!

Some of the other I wanted to show for the fact of how obiedent the dog was, and just how dang pretty this dog was.

Sorry but my pics of the other dog were a little fuzzy so I didnt upload them..Working Dogs 015.jpg

Dogs are amazing creatures and some of them I've met are smarter than some people I know.
My local PD has had dogs on the force for years now and the recently retired dog was just awesome to watch. Both he and the handling officer were great on and off the job. Officer Bruiser after a days work went home with the officer he worked with and became "just a normal dog", playing with the kids, and friends.
On duty he was an Officer and he did his job very well, and very much a hero of the community.

Kelly, I didn't see any current openings for CBP officers, but ICE is hiring:

When you get home, be sure to check usajobs.gov ... CBP will be hiring again

Yes Bunny they sure were. Like I said this was my first experience with these kind of dogs. Now I have a friend who is a K9 officer, but I have never been around his dog while he is working it. These animals were just beautiful and so well trained. Its hard to believe an animal can be so diciplined and smart.

The LEO's that get to do this on a daily basis have a really great job, and with that comes many many hours of training. Like anything in life, you have to train and practice to suceed and be efficient at your daily tasks...

All in all it was a great experience...
