I'm sitting here scratching my head.
The reason I'm scratching my head is because, judging by your account, you were treated poorly yet you plan to return to Canada. If it had been me I'd never return, yet you are willing to subject yourself to this treatment again.
Lets see if I can sum if up:
Theft by Canadian
Embarrassment by Canadian Border Guard under guise of authority
Assault by Canadian under guise of authority
Atomic Wedgie was what did it for me
If you willingly subject yourself to such treatment in the future you only have yourself to blame.

I'm with BikerRN on this one. I'd decline for next year's trip and tell them exactly why.

Lets see if I can sum if up:
Theft by Canadian
Not theft. Poster said that she voluntarily relinquished hat when asked. No duress. Not theft.
Embarrassment by Canadian Border Guard under guise of authority
Guise of authority? The CBSA guard had the authority. Period.
Assault by Canadian under guise of authority
Not an assault because the CBSA has the authority.
Every decision in life is playing the odds and assuming risk.
Personally, I live in Canada now because my wife is Canadian and has a wonderful family--my first real family, actually. So, I assume the risk of frequent border crossings. I even give up my 2A and carry rights when in Canada for the pleasure of a loving family.
If some members here can't handle the stress of an international border crossing, they have the freedom to stay home. Frankly, except for the bad luck of the draw, or possibly fitting a profile, crossing is easy, provided that you're honest and relaxed.

You gotta remember, since 9/11, everyone is suspect and our borders should scrutinize everyone. Sounds to me like they were doing their job. Excessive? ... If thats what it takes to keep America safer then I'm all for it.

At the risk of creating a thread drift, I am not much impressed by what remains of "Trudeau's Frogs" and what they represent.
I totally agree with you.
I despise Trudeau, his minions, and all that they stand for. They ruined the country and continue to ruin it, with their liberal senate and judge appointees, their dangerous refugee laws and, of course, the vile Firearms Act. Most Canadians outside of Toronto and Montreal agree with us. Unfortunately, though, as Chicago rules Illinois, T and M rule Canada.

This kind of thinking is why we're in the sinking boat that we're in now. What if they determined that cavity searches in full public view were ok and they decided it was your wife's turn? Would you say "Ok. It's all for keeping America safer", or would you rip the guards arms off and beat him/her to death with them? WAKE UP !

I hope I never have to visit Canada again. There is some beautiful country, great hunting and fishing. But, none of that makes up for the horrible treatment by Canadians. I have never felt so unwelcomed and treated so bad.
And Packin...I totally agree with you!!

Sorry to hear about your nightmare. I used to live in Detroit and crossed the border frequently. I always found their border agents professional and courteous. Frankly, much better than what I have experienced elsewhere.
If you are still distraut over your NRA hat and are referring to the basic membership hat I have one still unworn. I embroider hats (and screenprint shirts) for a living so the last thing in the world I need is another hat. Just PM me an address and I will mail you the NRA hat (provided I can find it) no charge.

yeah, this is why I can't travel outside the country anymore. If I was traveling with a female and this incident started unfolding, it would NOT be allowed to continue and there's a high probability that I'd be a permanent resident of the graybar motel or worse.
Just going by what was posted originally, it was nothing short of assault, and as far as I'm concerned sex assault if her shirt was lifted in full view of the public to boot.

Next year you could always tell the hubby to have a nice trip and stay home to shoot.
While it probably won't do any good, you could always write a few letters protesting your treatment to the Canadian Customs office as well as to your Senator. As I said it probably won't make a difference, but might make you feel better.

As a Canadian I always get treated better when going into the US and hate coming back to Canada to deal with CBSA. Now some of the crossings have been receiving there sidearms and have to do the same ******** trianing that we all have to go through. They are seeing the light, but slowly. Try a road trip next time. Road trips are always fun.

Bunny, I have a LOT of problems with your ordeal.
First thing I would do is contact my congressman, explaining the embarrassment that you had to go through.
I would also call the Canadian's version of Homeland Security or Border Control and demand an apology. I would also explain why I would never visit their wretched country again.
What you went through came close to a strip search.....in front of a crowd no less!!!!
The least this female guard could have done would have been to search you behind a curtain or given you a little bit of privacy.
This is absolutely disgusting and I would be thoroughly pissed.
As a matter of fact, I think I'd be contacting an attorney.
Sometimes on a clear day, I can see into the future with this spotting scope.

sounds excessive and very embarrassing going through that in full view of all other border crossers!!
