I have family and many friends in LE - I've seen the abuse those P71's take... even if the E7 gets 150k on them (which seems like a big if), that's nothing if the car has to be sent to the crusher afterwards.

Big mistake on Ford's part, IMO. Don't mess with what works.

The only other municipal use vehicle I can remember that was such a huge success was the Plymouth Fury. What a car! No idea what happened to Chrysler along the way, but every LEO I've spoken to with a Charger hates them.
The Carbon E7 is never intended to hit the open market. At the end of its life span, it is to be resold to Carbon for a rebuild.

There is no way I'd want a Hummer for a patrol vehicle. We just ordered some Tahoes, we'll see how that goes.

My old station has a Hummer... if you drive it over 65, it overheats.
The preceding post may contain sarcasm; it's just better that way. However, it is still intended with construction and with the Love of my L-rd Y'shua.

I know BP is a different ball game, but my brother drives a Tahoe on the job, and is very impressed with it. I own a Tahoe, and love it too. If I could afford it, I would have one for both myself and my wife.

I think a Tahoe would make a good patrol vehicle.

I have nothing against the Tahoe itself, but for our application I think its not the best choice. We have a small, older city with lots of tight narrow streets, then the outlaying areas are fairly rural with narrow twisting roads.

The Tahoe seems massive but it's less than 2" wider than a Crown Vic (79" vs 77.3") and the CV is actually 10" longer (212" vs 202").

True, but, the Tahoe is also much taller. At speeds normal for a police vehicle, I can see a problem on tight, windy(sp?) roads.

I love the Crown vic. It has an enormous amount of space compared to the other two. The Charger looks cool and runs like a scalded dog, but they don't ride as well and the back seat is small. The Caprice is my least favorite. The space in it sucks. It drives well but it is ugly, and the space up front ain't that great.

I have put three prisoners in the back of a CV, there is no way you could do that with any other car. You could put a couple of dead bodys in the trunk, in a Charger you can barely fit a tire, and all of the other crap like traffic cones, flares and your bag of tricks and you cant do it that well in the Caprice either.

I'm a big dude and it takes me a full minute to get out of a Caprice. The Charger handles well at high speeds it hugs the ground, the Caprice is OK and the CV suspension kinds of floats around once you get over 110 mph. Taking a hard curve feels like you are about to lose it. With the Caprice it sticks to the ground better but neither can compare with the Charger. Even with the Charger, by the time you put a console with everything in it and a computer, you have little room for anything else up front and a passenger is pretty cramped up. At least with the CV two people can sit fairly comfortable. With the Caprice two big guys up front are going to be pretty intimate by the time the shift is over.

Whatever Ford does, I hope its BIG. I hate dinky cars. I like space and lots of it.
What year Caprice are you comparing?? The Caprice was extremely similar in size to the CV.
