I saw a headline that stated the Texas DPS (State Troopers)were looking to hire several hundred officers,If you are currently an out of state LEO you can go through the Academy within 8 weeks instead of the 27 weeks for non prior Leo Applicants,and also pick your duty assignment area

You have to be from a list of approved agencies. They wont just let any LEO do the 8 week course.

It's not quite what it seems. They have a list of places open and you have to be a Certified Texas Peace Officer already. Here's a link to the story.

Just an observation. A "Trooper" who attends a shortened academy will never be considered a "real Trooper" by all the other Troopers. You can pretty much apply that mindset to any State Police agency, but having worked as a LEO in TX, I know it certainly applies there.

deadline to apply was Jan 8th
must be current Texas Peace Officer with Intermediate License
2 year commitment on the border area
