I am considering trading an AR I have for some automotive repair work.
What are the laws concerning this? What do I need in order to prove that I no longer own the weapon for liability purpose?

Are rifles registered in Arkansas? If not, then I expect all you need is a bill of sale showing who you sold the forearm to, and when the sale took place. Most people here say they record Drivers License information as well. You could also transact the transfer paperwork in front of a notary, if you wanted outside confirmation.
Keep in mind that I am not a lawyer and I haven't stayed at a Holiday inn in years. :danceban:
Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong but I just spoke to my local ffl on Wednesday about a handgun transfer and he said as long as both parties are private citizens then you need to file out a bill of sell with the guns make and serial number and have his drivers license number and full name on it, your information, and both signatures...have it notorised and keep the original forever. It won't be out of your name but if anyone gets to looking for it you can show them the paper and send them to the new owner.
I'd PM HotGuns on this one if he doesn't chime in soon...

There are no laws in Arkansas concerning such.
If both partys are not prohibited from owning such, then there is no issue.
You do not need to do anything. That is a common practice here. Carry on.
If you want to say " I traded X for X " for future record then do it.
Excellent, thanks. I thought that there would have to be a transfer form or something since the gun shop recorded the serial number and took a copy of my DL and CHCL when I bought it.
Let's assume this was my intent, and that I was not thinking ahead and considering ways to avoid a push to register or confiscate weapons. ;)
Too bad you're on the other side of the state...
I wish some of my customers were willing to trade AR's for auto repairs!!!
