B-29 (FIFI) at Dekalb-Peachtree Airport tomorrow

Great and rare opportunity to go see the only flying airworthy B-29 (FIFI) tomorrow (May 20th-22nd) at Dekalb/Peachtree Airport. This was the kind of bomber that dropped the first atomic bomb.

    Definitely going.

Do go. It's pretty inspiring to see any warbird.

Fifi used to be based out of the Confederate (Commemorative) Air Force in Midland. We've seen Fifi there.

Fifi appeared at our Warbird Air Show last year. I got a chance to go up in her. Quite a plane.

I would love to see one fly. My dad was a Seabee on Tinian when the first one showed up there. Later he help build the pits needed to load the atomic bombs on the planes. A couple of years ago I saw the Enola Gay on display at the museum. I love planes with huge radial engines.

Saw it at the CAF Air Show years ago at Spirit of St Louis Airport along with a couple of B-17s. Just slightly too large for concealed carry.

Being former aircrew I would love to be there. Last year the Liberty Foundation brought their B-17 Liberty Belle to Raleigh. The cost of the ride was a bit pricey but worth every penny plus I had the pleasure of meeting a gentleman who they gave a free ride to, he was a former waist gunner on B-17s. And I agree with OldVet, those big radials are a sight to see and there is nothing as sweet as the sound of one just running.

We've got a CAF outpost near here at Falcon Field in Mesa. Just about any weekend I hear big ol' radial engines over ehad and I almost always step outside to see the Stearmans and the AT-6s and occasionally the B-17 fly over. Fifi was apparently in Phoenix a couple of years ago, but I missed her.

I've got a file somewhere on what it takes to manage those enormous radial engines in flight. The flight engineer managed the power; the pilot pretty much "just" steered and asked for more power or less. Quite an operation.

My father was a bombadier on B-17s and then later B-29s during WWII and a while afterwards. Awesome piece of equipment.

My son and I got to ride in a B-25 a few years ago. It was great. I'd love to hitch a ride in both the B-17 and the B-29.

May of last year we got to see "Texas Raiders" at the Dyess air base show in Abilene. This year it was cancelled due to "sequestration" and budget cuts.
