The Land Between the Lakes Target Range volunteers have this Sunday 6/17 reserved from 3-6pm. Usually the volunteers get a four-hour block but that's all we could get on somewhat short notice. If you're in the area, come on out. We'll spend a few minutes cleaning the range and the rest of the time shooting.
The range is on Hwy 68/80 just east of the 5 mile marker. The entrance is well marked. Map it here.
You can shoot anything except tracers. Just make sure you're legal for it.
If you've never used the range before, you'll need to stop by the Golden Pond Visitor Center, also right off Hwy 68/80 west of the range, and sign a waiver of liability. US Forest Service rules. In case you get hit by shrapnel if my friend Bill sets off one of his famous tannerite targets you won't sue the USFS... heh.
Mike Dito, the USFS staffmember who is in charge of the range, and also a volunteer/avid shooter, will be there with some spare forms if you don't want to stop by the Visitor Center.
It's an informal range and usually lots of fun. Family friendly. Not unusual for kids to be there with us. Make sure you have eye/ear protection. You might also want to bring some insect repellent. Bumper crop of ticks and chiggers this year.
