Charleston Sportsmen's Classic at the Exchange Park Fairgrounds in Ladson
Copied from the Post & Courier:
This week's inaugural Charleston Sportsmen's Classic at the Exchange Park Fairgrounds in Ladson promises something for every outdoors lover, says show director Jay Collier. Collier said the group has put on shows in other areas of the country, but this is the first visit to Charleston.
"We have more than 200 booths both inside and outside," Collier said. Show offerings include exhibits for fishing, camping, boating, RVing, mountain climbing, ATVing, canoeing, rafting, hiking, kayaking, wildlife art, hunting, taxidermy and repair shops.
The show will offer visitors two opportunities at winning $10,000. A numbered tagged fish is being released into the lake at the Exchange Park Fairgrounds, and on Friday and Saturday only participants are invited to bring their fishing tackle and bait to try and catch the fish. On Sunday, the first 144 to sign up will get an opportunity at making a hole-in-one worth $10,000 on an island green.
Other highlights include the North American Giants, a display of trophy deer antlers including the top two record bucks, the Hanson buck (Boone and Crockett score of 213 1/8) and the Jordan buck (Boone and Crockett score of 206 1/8).
Professional fisherman Keith Johnson of Oklahoma will be doing five shows in a giant fish tank (45 feet long by nine feet tall by five feet wide). Johnson will be doing casting techniques and how to fish different lures, and visitors will get an opportunity to see a largemouth bass strike a lure.
A couple of other big draws will be Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Army National Guard show car; an enclosed paintball area (equipment provided); an Abrams Tank and Bradley Fighting Vehicle; a 40-foot climbing wall; along with daily seminars on dog training, turkey hunting, black bear hunting, antelope hunting, white-tailed deer hunting and inshore light tackle fishing.
Show hours are noon-7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $6 for adults with children 10 and under free, and there are $1 off coupons available in The Post and Courier.
