The MDA Car Show is being held this weekend at the Roanoke Civic Center, Sat and Sun. I'll have one of my Bugs in the show and will be there with our local VW Car Club display and table. Please come out and enjoy some really nice cars while supporting a great cause...you'll meet some great folks. If you see a hippy bug with a dude in tiedye, let me know you're from the DC site. Peace.
I enjoyed the weekend at the car show with one of my Bugs. CC'd all weekend with the PT709 in pocket, no problem. This car show is a charity benefit and it's all about the kids. I'm posting a picture of my car and one of a couple of the kids with my car...these poor kids can't even get proper winter clothes.

I'd have gone, except Roanoke is about 4.5 hours from me. And I'm a Saab fanatic, not a Dub enthusiast. Still, it's nice to see someone with well maintained classic bugs, don't see enough of them any more.
I've always wanted an old 'dub. I've had many different "project" cars, and ones that I raced. Since I just had a daughter, and my wifes a student, probable be a lonnnnnng time before I get to enjoy the hobby again. Great to see another VA car lover who carries!
I took the hippy-mobile to an interesting car show in Winston-Salem Saturday. A rock-a-billy event called Heavy Rebel. All old rat rods and rusty hot rods...do-it-yourself stuff. People dressed in 50's greaser and betty boop threads. It was definitely different. I ended up having to drive back home without a clutch (rabbit starting and speed shifting). It was fun, though.
I love old cars. I like different/unusual stuff...things you don't see everyday. They don't have to be 100K collector cars...the old school hot rods and rat rods made out of less popular models are some of the coolest cars I've seen. I'm now acquiring a 48 packard woody station wagon. I'll restore it some day, but for a while I'll just shore up the mechanics and drive it. Some call them jalopies or rust buckets...they're still cool.
My 1 year old son already has the car fever...it must be genetic.
