Smile Greetings from the Big Soggy

Greetings from way down yonder near New Orleans, LA, the city that recently received a hurricane-enduced enema. I'm another visitor that found out about this forum from PDO. Hoping to find some good info. I like what I've read so far.

I'm a private sector fire investigator working mostly with the legal and insurance industries. I was formerly a Fire Prevention Chief with a local municipal fire department and was commissioned through the Sheriff's Office as an LEO-Arson Investigator.

Welcome, GPS, how ya'll are? I am from Alabama and returned here in 1995 after 14 years in NOLA. I was especially glad last year that I was gone. Still have many friends that went through terrible times. My wife's brother lost everything. He now lives in Roanoke, VA. He is fortunate that he is retired and can live where he wants, so many don't have that option.

Glad to have you here and join in anytime.

Welcome to the forum, GPS. Arson investigation is hard work.

Actually, I think you folks in NOLA received 2 enemas, one from hurricane Katrina and the other from the re-election of Mayor Nagin!

The cops and firefighters definitely feel that way. Many feel that if they had not gone out of their way to allow people to vote that still own property in New Orleans but are no longer living in the area, the election would have turned out quite differently. A lot of people are blaming Nagin for the gun grab that went on after the storm. I'm thinking that much of it was due to the looting that was going on. A number of gun shops and private homes with gun collections were hit and cleaned out. Either the cops just didn't want to leave a bunch of guns in empty and damaged buildings for looters to find or some feel that they were the ones doing the looting. The whole situation was a bad one.

I live across the lake in an area that did not flood and have a federal border patrol officer as a neighbor. The neighbors around here were ready and watching out for each other. No looting occurred around us but I understand some went on in other areas.

Nagin is truely a strange one. He's a Democrat that endorced a Republican for governor (Bobby Jindal). Bobby lost, but got elected in the following months to represent the Louisiana 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House. Jindal in the House and David Vitter in the Senate have been two good conservatives for Louisiana. Now if we could just get rid of Landrieu and get another conservative up there we would really have something.
