    New license in Oregon

Hello all, just received my CHL after a very long, drawn out OR process (Lucky I wasn't in a "hurry"). I have a few questions and perspectives to share, by and by.

I began this whole thing with some ambivalent feelings; I'm a firm believer in the BOR in its entirety, and I'm not comfortable with the idea of dragging myself into the offices of the local sherriff, hat in hand, to apply for a license to do something that is, by my estimation, a guaranteed Right, and then spending the next 3 months (!) and a bit over $100.00 awaiting this "boon" from the authorities.

OK, so my principles were compromised and I de facto registered myself as a gun owner/user...I'm too old to fight these kinds of fights anyway, so I just held my nose and did it.

I'm a peaceable sort...don't even hunt, because I don't like the idea of killing, even though I've been a great enthusiast of shooting sports since I was a youngster. I love to go plinking, shooting clay pidgeons, long-range targets, but never living creatures, unless they mean harm to me or mine, or I was starving and had no other way...for now, I can get my meat at the market.

I mean, very simply to live in peace and if neccessary, to enforce my peace.

    Welcome from VA....via Germany

I hear what you are saying about "asking" for a permit, paying and waiting to exercise a right. My question is, why does it take some states 15 minutes and $30 to issue a permit; other places take $300 and 6+ months to issue a permit....

Welcome from Phoenix! Question: you don't agree with killing, even to eat...yet eat meat bought at the store? That seems a little philosophically inconsistent. That slab of beef was a cow at one point that was killed for your grilling pleasure. :) Not trying to bust your chops, just interested in what the difference is in your mind.
