I should say that I am not really a gun guy. I own a few pistols that are more relics than weapons, WWI era Luger 9mm with original holster. Its very cool, but I would never fire it, she lives in a safe. 1911 Colt 45 early 40's. And a 1972 Ruger Blackhawk 357 single action 8inch. Of those I am pretty sure only the Luger was ever fired. That colt and the ruger are perfectly capable awesome guns, but I resist the idea of owning ammo. Recent events have made me rethink my possession and operation of firearms, and those are family heirlooms. I love guns like I love cars, engineering brilliance. The 1911 45acp is among the the finest of all operating machines.
I like to shoot, but my experience is very limited. I am one of those freaks that is left eyed and right handed. My mate has an ar15 that he let me put 60 rounds through, but the stock was not really long enough for me. I was on the target like funk on parliment, and easily the best shot of the day. I have shot a 38 snubnose, and was all over it as well. I shot a kimber 45acp dead on at 40 yards consistently, 24 rounds in 3 inches, but that is a damn nice gun. I wear glasses!!!! I listen to Madonna and drive a Miata! Nevertheless, I think that there is a stillness to shooting, and I can get pretty still apparently. It is odd.
So I'm buying a Mossberg 590A1 for home defense. I have never fired a shotgun of any type. But I have a friend with land where I can practice. I like the shot shells because they are less likely to leave my apartment and kill someone next door. Some say bird shot, some say buck. Nice thing about a shotgun is that they shoot it all, so you can load it how you want it. I think the pump shotgun is the way to go as well because the sound of it racking is its own deterrent. Its a 7+1 and that is a lot of options. Or is it 8+1? Whichever, I am sick of punks stealing my property, and who is to say how brazen they get next time. I was really unsure about keeping a loaded weapon at home, but I figured I would unload it and move it to the closet while I have guests. I do live alone, so no kids to find it, and no woman to shoot me with it. And if I get good I should be able to load it pretty quick. Going to order the knoxx comp stock, the traditional butt type comp stock. Might add a red dot for my left eye right handedness, and thats it. And just for fun, I'll put the bayonet on it. Besides shooting is fun. I'll take it to my friend's ranch and kill beer cans. Nothing I hate more that empty beer cans.
