    hey from central missouri!

Hey guys. So obviously i am new to this forum. I am a college student at the university of missouri. a strong supporter of our country and our troops, and of course the second ammendment. I am new to the concealed carry world and will be getting my ccw gun and permit in the very near future. i am considering the ruger SR9c. let me know if you guys have any other good ideas? (in the $4-500) price range ;-).

    Thanks

Welcome aboard neighbor. I'm about 90 minutes west of your AO.

I've heard very good things about the Ruger SR9c but my experience with Ruger lies with their wheel guns, which are superb.

Some good alternatives would be Glock 19 or Glock 26 either new or used. I've heard good things about Kahr CM9 pocket 9mm which is also in the $500 price range. You save some money over Kahr's usually more expensive guns, but still get great quality.

I think if you stay in 9mm you'll still have a decent/proven defensive caliber that has cheap practice ammo. As a college student, ammo prices should be an issue you think about closely as you really should be shooting and practicing/training as much as you can. At some point ammo price will be a consideration. With 9mm you can afford to shoot a box every couple of weeks instead of a couple times a year.

And remember, shooting one 50 round box of ammo spent on good quality practice time once or twice a month is much more effective at improving your skills than shooting 300 - 400 rounds twice a year.

Welcome from 30 miles south of you! Take a look at the XD9sc or the new XDm 9 compact. Both are great weapons.
