    Thanks, all!

I got my knife in the mail about an hour ago and I can't stop opening and closing it. It's a beaut. Being on a limited budget -- NYC will make a pauper out of anyone -- I was shopping online for knives that I could get for $30 or under at discount. That included some decent ones, like the Kershaw Volt II, et al. And I'm sure I would have been happy to be armed at all.
But then it occurred to me to ask a Texan friend I was talking to on the phone if he had a spare and would lend it to me 'til my ship came in. He turned out to be looking for an excuse to buy a new EDC so was happy to send me his old one; which when I was online-shopping was in the category of "Wow, now that one looks nice ... oh, @#$%, and it's $110, that's why...back to the domestic beer section for me, sigh."
The finish is a little banged up, but I'm of the opinion that a weapon's aesthetics are about performance. If it functions beautifully, it's beautiful.
And while I am sure there are better knives, I was prepared to make do with a lot worse than a Benchmark Griptilian. So I am in love. I'm sure it will wear off, but right now I seem to have to have it near me at all times.
Sweet, sweet, sweet. Just feels right in my hand. No blade play at all, razor sharp, nice weight, and if my hand slips on the grip, well, I shouldn't have pulled a knife to win an oiled wrestling match anyway. (Just kidding.)
    Ah, love.

And, oh bah, after reading a bunch of posts on bladeforum.com, it seems like I won't even be able to carry my new knife. The Manhattan DA is being such an unprintable, not only are all locking knives that you can flick open with your wrist considered illegal "gravity knives," the police have a quota for knife tickets, and a pocket clip is considered "reasonable suspicion" to pat you down.
    Snarl.
    Getting out just in time.
I guess I need to go revise my post about it being ok to carry in NYC. :/
