Hello from Tennessee
Hello everyone! Been reading for a while and really appreciate the info you guys post on this forum. I am a former MP having served for three years in the late 60's. I was a combat MP for the majority of that time so my primary carry weapon was the M-16. I also carried a 1911 Colt .45 auto on my hip everyday and unlike most of you I never really became that fond of the weapon. I hope you don't hold that against me. After my MP days I worked as a county deputy sheriff for two years while awaiting for the next State Police Academy class. Hiring was slow in those days. Mostly my duties as a deputy was serving papers (warrants) and going into peoples homes to make arrests. Unlike the TV shows today where the police go in with umpteen back-ups or swat teams it was not like that back then. We went in alone and it could get nasty in a hurry. You were arresting someone's son, daughter, husband, wife, mother, etc., and it usually did not go down very well. In those days I carred a S&W model 28, higway patrolman .357 magnum and was very proficient with it - on the range at least. While working that job I got a better offer, pay and benefits, and left the LEO field. I have often wondered about what might have been and still think about it often. I've heard that it gets in your blood and I am a firm believer in that.
I will close my post by saying I truly have the utmost respect for LEO's everywhere and wish god speed to every single one of them.

Welcome from South Carolina...
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.
