Welcome! I'm from Austin and just recently received my permit in the mail. Yeah, I know what you mean about the Texas summer heat. I decided to carry a Walther Pk380 in a holster that I place in the small of my back. Talk to others and try going to a gun range where they will let you shoot various guns before you decide on a different gun. There are many small pistols out there that are good to carry even in the brutal heat. Some of them you may even forget you're carrying! You've made the right decision to carry because the thugs in this world are not in business to shake your hand and give you a kiss! Remember to always carry and never hesitate to draw your weapon if you have to protect your family.

Welcome from the south side of the Metroplex! Go to the Bullet Trap and try out some of their rental guns. I have taken a few trips up there and rented a bunch of guns to see what I really like. Living in Plano, I'll bet you probably are familiar with them.

An Airweight S&W snubbie fits really nicely in a pocket, and so does a small .380.

Welcome to the forum from Michigan. You did well to arm yourself. The difference between you and the BG is knowledge and practice.

Welcome to the forum, brother! Minnesota calling...

The story (except for the kids) does have a similar ring. Stay aware, stay safe!
