Greetings from Texas
I actually just stumbled on this forum as I frequently search the tangled web for random information on hobbies of mine. I am 34 and recently took up shooting for defensive purposes. Several months ago, I had one of Plano's finest knock on my door to inform me that my neighborhood had been experiencing a string of break-ins and wanted to know if I had seen anything and to keep my eyes open. As I shut the door and resumed conversation with my wife and 2 young children, I found myself thinking, "if someone broke into my house, what would.....what COULD we do to defend ourselves." After a few moments of consideration, I came the conclusion that tossing the table lamp at them would probably not benefit us much. So, off to school I went. Unlike highschool, I fell in love with this education.
I did mounds of research and range work and finally settled on a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm for home defense. I shot the Glocks, CZ's, Sigs, and a world of others, but the S&W just felt best. I took some safety courses and target qualifiers and thought that was that. WRONG!! Once you start thinking about one real life threatening situation, you start thinking about them all. What would I do if, or when, or how would I....etc.... So, I recently received my CCL from the Lone Star State and am continually practicing and training to become second-nature with my skills. I carry the S&W, but in 100+ temps, it's not real convenient, so I am actively searching for a more concealable weapon.
My brother thinks I am nuts and I just want to feel "cool" having a sidearm with me all the time. I admit, there is a "Clint Eastwood" effect that you have to push back, but more importantly, I can't imagine the feeling of watching someone harm or run off with my daughter or son and me helpless to prevent it.....and I don't want to...therefore, I carry.
I am sure there are hundreds of "bios" like this on this forum, which is why I joined. I don't know a lot of gun lovers, so my information and advice is sought from gathering information on forums such as these. I look forward to hours of browsing and reading and conversing with you and benefiting from your collective knowledge and wisdom.
Thanks for having me.

I too am in Texas, I too had some events happen in my neighborhood that made me realized I wasn't prepared to defend my family, I too chose the Smith and Wesson M&P! And... I am also looking for something smaller to carry in this ridiculous heat! J Frame Smith will be in my possession soon. Welcome!!!

Jeez this bio again! I get so tired of hearing this one.
Welcome to the forum, sounds like you had a wake-up call and answered the phone, good for you. Your brother sounds like a dork, work on that.
You may look into the M&P 9SC for smaller concealed carry, you already like the M&P and it should work about the same as the one you have.
