Carrying, for a lot of us on this forum, has parallels to other "just in case" preparations that most of us already do. Like having a fire extinguisher in the kitchen, or putting your seatbelt on whenever you drive a vehicle. You may not ever use either one for their designed purpose, but it's there just in case you need it.
Once you find a gun that isn't a problem to carry, but has enough punch that you are comfortable with, you will feel naked leaving the house without it.

"I just haven't felt the need to carry while at home."
If you knew for certain that you were going to get into a car accident next Wednesday...would you get into your car on that Wednesday?
No, of course not. You wouldn't even consider getting into vehicle that day.
If I knew for sure that I was going to get into a deadly confrontation next Wednesday...would I get out of bed on that Wednesday? Nope.
That is why we carry every day. Because we cannot ever predict the future. If we could then we take every precaution to avoid the danger completely.
We carry a firearm every day because we never know when or where we might just need it.
We may never need it but, if we do need it - we're going to need it in a gosh awful darn hurry and we're not going to have time to go home and fetch it.

Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.
Don't worry about your desire or need - or lack thereof - to carry. The Second Amendment isn't about that.
It's about practice..
And we are here for your practical needs and questions.

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness,
nor the arrow for its swiftness,
nor the warrior for his glory.
I love only that which they defend.
Thank you for your service and welcome to the forum! I think it's great that you are considering carrying when back here and that you are seeking information in doing such.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.
