    New to Guns

Hi, as my name says, I am brand new to firearms. I don't own a firearm yet. My only exposure to firearms have been two courses I took at Gander Mountain Academy recently (Basic Handgun Fundamentals, Intermediate handgun). I however am already a member of both the NRA & GOA

I recently got my Green Card (yes the US takes in more immigrants legally than any other country in the world), so now I am eligible to own a firearm. I took the training courses mentioned above and got my state permit to purchase firearms. I am about to make my first purchase, and that is why I have joined here to get more information, learn more; my first purchase attempt at a neighborhood store was very unpleasant as I ran into pushy, condescending salesmen trying to sell me very expense (anything close to $1000 is very expensive for me) handguns.

I want to add; I immigrated from a third world country run by the military junta. They have the strictest gun control, which includes the death penalty for owning anything semiautomatic or above a .22 caliber. However criminals never never have any problem being armed. The military never seemed to care about armed criminals terrorizing innocent people; it was armed law abiding citizens they were more concerned about. The American founding fathers were very wise in recognizing the right for free law abiding people to bear arms.

    Thanks, God bless.

Welcome to DC & America from Ga...

I applaud your approach to concealed carry and wish you the best in the adventure... I'd suggest you take a look at the Kahr CM9, or CW9, these are excellent discrete carry pistols; I have a few of the Kahrs and am very happy with um.. The CM and CW series pistols are well under $500 and function just as well as the higher priced ones.

Again, Welcome and good luck to you.

Welcome from Tn. I to admire your approach to firearm ownership. Go to a range that has rentals find the gun you like and go for it.
