A bit late, but welcome, Mike.
Same story here, lived in NYC my whole life, got tired of the nonsense and all the hoops they make you jump through, especially the fact that getting a CCW was nothing more than a distant dream, so we picked up and moved out here to Vegas. Best decision I ever made!

I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it.

Sorry it took such a long time to answer but I'm loving it. The weather for the most part is the main reason I moved as I have bone problems which make slipping on ice possibly crippling for me. The weather is awesome, the heat is nowhere near as stifling even though it's much hotter the lack of humidity makes it feel cooler, especially in the shade. Besides you go from home AC to car AC to work AC. Or I'm the casino or pool...lol.
I love the freedom given here to gun owners, except I'm against the blue card thing, it's a lot better than where I came from that's for sure. Although open carry is allowed I rarely practice it other than if I'm at home or walking the doggies. I prefer CC, but appreciate that freedom is allowed and expressed here. I am surprised though in the 19 months I'm here, I've yet to see anyone OC. Maybe it's more common in rural areas...IDK. I also find it funny that at the few gun shows I've been to here they prohibit CCW, yet I do anyway since concealed means concealed.
It's disconcerting, that not just here, and its a hot button issue about adult students and employees carrying either at work or on campus. My nephew is a very responsible 27 year old in his last year at UNLV Dental School where he studies often in the library until the wee hours, but is afraid to carry even though he's had his license for 6 years and has been shooting for many more. As the dental school is in a not so great area his long walks to his car are worrisome to his family and mine. Please look into our new assemblywoman Michelle Fiori's pro campus carry agenda and let's get our friends and neighbors to support it. Thanks for the welcom!
