Welcome! Former Nutmegger here, now in AZ. As fastk9dad mentioned, CT gun laws aren't too bad compared to NJ and NYC to the south, and MA and RI to the north and east. You'd have to go to NH, VT or PA to find a comparably low level of restrictions. But you can carry concealed almost anywhere (the usual places are off limits), including bars and restaurants serving alcohol, you can even drink - it's not against CT law, and historically it hasn't been a problem. But don't expect to see anyone carrying openly, and do your level best to keep your sidearm concealed.
Currently, you start with a town permit, then once that's in hand you repeat the same with the State Police. As long as you're record is clean and the local CLEO isn't a complete idiot, there shouldn't be any hassles in getting your permit. Note that the towns of New Britain and New London prohibit carrying completely.

Sorry you had to move here from there, but welcome. GASMITTY summed the deal in a nutshell up pretty well. Check out the CT Citizens Defense League, good resource.
As far as Connecticut goes, we're all rich and related to the Kennedys. How many vacation homes do you own, exactly?
