A writer researching for his next book.
I'm brand new here. In fact, I haven't even lurked here which means I'm still navigating my way around in the early wee hours this morning.
My background is pretty simple--I served in the U.S. Air Force, then in federal law enforcement, then after graduate school, went into the advertising and marketing world as a copywriter. First job landed me at Ackerman McQueen in Texas, where I'm from and presently living. Ackerman McQueen was the National Rifle Association's powerhouse ad and pr agency of the mid-80's, 90's and early 00's.
While there, I was blessed to work on landmark campaigns such as "I'm the NRA" in which we did photoshoots and interviews with various celebrity members like Tom Selleck and Charlton Heston, Gerald McRaney and Susan Howard. I was on the ground-floor launch of "I Refuse To Be A Victim" and wrote the radio and television commercials that featured Ms. Howard (of Dallas fame). During my tenure at Ackerman, I wrote piles of speeches for Wayne LaPierre, James Jay Baker and my personal favorite, Mr. Charlton Heston.
I'm a staunch supporter and defender of the Second Amendment, the NRA and most all pro-gun groups and associations--and I'm a huge, huge supporter of carry laws, be they concealed or open.
A little less than three weeks ago, my first novel, Above Reproach, was published. I've written non-fiction before as well as newspaper columns, magazine articles, etc having to do with advertising and marketing, but this was my first foray into the world of fiction and thrillers. Essentially the storyline displays and positions the Second Amendment as the unparalleled and most effective "department of homeland security" we have or need in the U.S.
There are several important instances in the book where CHL holders have little choice but to defend themselves and others because of the situation they find themselves in--and the police are not only nowhere to be seen, but as so often happens in real life, have not even been contacted.
I'm here researching, reading, learning, acquiring ideas, etc for the third book that will be coming out next spring entitled Blue Cities, Red Streets, which is a thriller that deals with domestic crime and the predators that successfully prey on the unprepared (aka: unarmed) versus the armed citizens who refuse to be victimized by the criminals. (The title is a play on the blue/red political map where the liberal cities/areas are denoted as "blue" regions, but the uncontained crime causes their streets to literally run red with the blood of victims.)
That's about it for my dull existence these days, so I reckon I'll be doing a lot more looking around and learning here than posting--at least initially.
When I'm not writing, I enjoy reloading and casting my own bullets as well as flying and boating.

Above Reproach, the new thriller that unequivocally positions the Second Amendment and concealed carry as our nation's most effective system of homeland and personal security.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you have an impressive resume there. Hope you get some good material here for your next book and I'll see if I can get a copy of the one you just had published to read through.
