Howdy from the Texas Coastal Plain

    Hi folks,

My name is Cary Voss and I live in Victoria, Texas. I am a College Professor at Victoria college, but also a Reagan conservative. I like guns in general, waterfowl hunting, and fly fishing in salt water from tarpon to trout. I also am a flintknapper who makes my own points, bows, arrows, atlatls and darts. I also do primitive technology demos for kids and the public, such as friction fire making and ground firing of primitive pottery. I am fortunate to live on 400 acres barely outside the city of Victoria, which is on the Texas coast. I can shoot geese and doves off my front porch if I so desire, and in 25 minutes be waist deep wadefishing for trout and redfish. I know my life is tough, but someone has to live it. :)

I had a cw permit several years ago when I lived in Virgina, but have not applied for one since moving back to Texas. I am in the process of deciding whether to get the Texas permit, and deciding which gun to purchase for concealed carry. I would appreciate any advice about my pistol choice that anyone would like to provide.

    Thanks,

    Cary

I lived in Lynchburg from 1995 to 1998 and taught at Liberty University, the college Jerry Falwell started. It was there I got the flintknapping bug. I could be at native brook trout streams to fly fish on my Honda Rebel in 45 minutes, but I was born to live near the coast.

    Welcome aboard Cary.
Deciding on which gun to buy for concealed can be an arduous task. My suggestion along with others here will be to go to a few well established gun stores that have a shooting range and various types of pistols of different calibers (9mm in my opinion being the minimum) available to rent and shoot. Take your time, look around, and ask questions. Remember a gun with a longer barrel will be harder to carry concealed than one with a 3" to 4 1/4" barrel length.

I hope you'll find what will work for you on your first purchase. If not you can always buy more. They don't like to be alone any more than we do.
