Greetings from hot and dry southeastern Colorado
I'm brand new here, but not new to concealed carry. I've had my permit long enough to have "grandmothered" in when the state requirements changed and a handgun class became mandatory prior to issuance of the permit. I grew up in a gun-owning family and can't remember ever being without one, but mostly rifles and shotguns. My husband and I have a Tomcat Beretta 3032 (grip too short, my fingers too long), H&R 949 Colt Revolver (tad bit heavy, but I love its Old West aura), and a Ruger Standard .22 (best fit for me of our three, but I'm not fond of it). The Beretta is okay for on-body CC, but I don't like handling it because it is uncomfortably small to for my hand size. The other two are too bulky and heavy for on-body concealment.
Consequently, I'm in the research phase of what I (emphasis added) want rather than dealing with what my sincerely helpful husband/brother/sons suggest I need/want. My hands are long and medium width with long slender fingers. While I've carried in a purse or in a vehicle for years, I'm in a position now that I'm going to carry on my body. I'm impressed with what I've read about SmartCarry holsters, and I'm going to order one, but I need the gun first. I live in a very rural area and shopping for a handgun requires hours of travel to a gunshop that offers more than just looking and holding, so I'm doing my homework well before I actually shop in person at a dealer who has a 'try it out before you buy it' facility.

I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it.

Welcome from Va ! I agree with your post....try it before ya buy it. If you are not comfortable with your firearm it may end up collecting dust or not serving its purpose...protecting you and your family.

Welcome from Wisconsin!
It sounds like you need something other than a compact or sub-compact pistol. There are many out there. You'll just have to keep researching until you find a good fit.
