Hello from Kentucky
Hello,
Just wanted to introduce myself.
I live here in Louisville and have all my life.
I am an IT Analyst (computer tech) and work for one of the big local companies.
I have been working with computers professionally for 12 years and have recently started some home gunsmithing. I grew up with 1911's and have developed a healthy love for them.
Last year with the help of another forum (Roderus Custom Gunworks) I decided that I would build my own 1911 45acp. I decided on a long slide (6 inches
) and got a frame off of gunbroker.com. Bought most of the components off of ebay and ruined most of them the first time around. After much fitting and refitting my 1911 is almost complete.
In total I had learned and performed all of the following on my 1911.
Fitted all parts
trigger job (4.5 lbs)
new hammer and sear
peened and lapped the rails to the slide
new sights
all new springs
all new pins
installed grip safety , slidestop and thumb safety
new grip bushings and magwell
new barrel
all the stuff i forgot to mention
Still need to add a finish. Probably going to be done in black guncote.
I have had it out for a workout. She did 1.5 inch groups at 25 yards. That's from a bench rest.
Not bad for my first build. I'm currently looking to do a 80% 1911 project.
I would live to find someone in my area that has some milling experience. It would be nice to have a buddy project. Any takers... let me know.
I have been looking around this forum and there seems to be a lot of good information and a lot of good people too. I look forward to becoming a contributing member.

Welcome a_kayaker.
I've built about five 1911s from scratch myself. Quite an experience isn't it?
It's a shame we don't live closer; I've got a mill and lathe.
