    New guy from North Cackalackie

Living near Raleigh NC, I recently finished CCW class and awaiting my permit. Have had a 1911 all of adult life since high school - the AMT Hardballer - the first 1911 in stainless steel (or so I'm told).

Currently researching the pistol I will carry. Contenders in order are: Walther P99AS, HK p2000, and Sig 2022. Any input here is welcome.

Also interested in getting started with IDPA competition and tactical pistol training in general.

    Cheers,

    vrmntynkee

Welcome! I've said it before and I'll say it again... the Sig SP2022 is the best-kept value secrets out there. I paid $349 for mine and it's one of my all-time favorite guns.

Welcome to DC.com! (nothing to do with the comic book heros!)

May I suggest a HK P2000 SK for carry and HK P30 for IDPA. Now I would look at a used as well as new for either as most HKs in either of these models have even been broke in with 2,000 rounds down the pipe. My 9mm P2000 SK is pushing 4,000 rounds and runs like new. HK tested the P30 and it finally gave up after 91,622 rounds. Not many will do that!

Welcome, from a Raleighite. I received my permit in 38 days recently. Hopefully yours comes as quickly. I was expecting 90 days based on what I'd heard.

Welcome from Durham. Since you're already a 1911 guy why not consider one in an Officers size. I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II that I love and carry everyday.
