New gun owner from NYC
I am a new gun owner, who recently bought a Ruger 10/22. I have a lot to learn about guns and plan on asking a lot of question regarding usage & cleaning of the gun.
I respect the right to bear arms, but I also believe in some common sense gun regulations. But I feel that NYC's gun regulations are too strict and should be reduced.
I look forward to respectful, intelligent, and interesting conversation with you all. :)

The 10/22 is awesome fun.
What would you define as "common sense" gun regulation?

Welcome to the forum.
I define "reasonable" gun regulations as those that have a minimal affect on folks' right to own firearms, while having a meaningful purpose and/or affect on safety and crime. Such regulations include: limiting handgun purchases to one per month.

Welcome to the forum... and I bet you aren't going to see eye to eye with most people here.
I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it.

I'd disagree with the one gun a month but if you're trying to stop someone from, say buying 10 Hi Points in Ohio at a time and selling them illegally in Buffalo, I could catch your drift. I've only once purchased more than one gun in a month and it was because I had the money for a Glock and walked out with a Ruger LCP and a Taurus 9mm instead. Since registering is a PITA, I was thrilled to have to only make one trip downtown and one back to the store to get my guns.
If NYC went to one gun a month and honored NYC CCW, I'd be more than thrilled. It would be a step in the right direction at least. And maybe for your reasons, one a month in NYC might stem a straw purchaser.
For the rest of the state, no way!

that's the whole point, to prevent guys from buying 10 handguns on North Carolina and selling them a week later in Newark or Brooklyn.
limiting handgun purchases to 1 per month will not stop illegal sales of handguns, but it will surely slow it down..and maybe make the criminal enterprise not worth the time & money.

Welcome to the Forum.
There is no balance between a "minimal effect on rights" and "shall not be infringed."
that's totally fine. I will remain respectful and polite, and I expect the same.
And that is how we like to keep things around here, for people of any viewpoint.

.
Reasonable restrictions? Thats Yankee lingo.
One gun a month? Sometimes I buy several guns a day. To me that is "reasonable".
Your version of reasonable and mine are two different things.
Hilter thought that shooting Jews in the back of the head was reasonable.
Here's a fact. Laws have no meaning or purpose for some and only serve as a mechanism for punishment AFTER the crime. Laws have no effect on criminals because they dont follow the law.Thats what makes them criminals.

So let me get this straight.
You want to limit ME to one gun a month because of the illegal actions of someone several states over?
You're kidding right?
