Greetings from the Last Frontier!
Howdy all - my names Brian and I live in Anchorage AK.
I've been lurking the forums for a while and decided to join so I could ask questions and glean information the many experienced members here.
I've lived in Alaska virtually all my life, having been adopted from as a child from Korea, and have enjoyed all manner of recreational activities common to here including, of course, recreational shooting.
That much said, as Anchorage has steadily risen to becoming one of the most dangerous cities, based on population, in the U.S. I've become more and more interested in defensively carrying a firearm. I live in a nice area of town, but Anchorage isn't huge, and I'm a single father with a young daughter and I just feel it's time to take further steps in providing defense for us, and in general.
I'm new to the idea of carrying a weapon concealed or openly, but Alaska fully allows it, with no permits, and I'm hoping that some time here will help make me more comfortable with this addition to my lifestyle and help educate me so I can make informed decisions.
Looking forward to talking with ya'll.

If you're new to firearms and carrying ...
Whatever else you do, check the very old posts in the forum. To get to them, you can use the <Advanced Search>, <Single Content Type> of search, where FindPosts=AnyDate, Forum=<pick one> and Sort=ThreadStartDate (ascending). Back in 2004/2005, there were lots of excellent posts used to "seed" the forum. Many of them are classics, as to the rationale and justification for defensive tools in the hands of civilians, the pros/cons of carrying, the Second Amendment, and the like.
Welcome aboard.

Great to hear, I'll search them out.
Fortunately not new to firearms. I've got a good assortment and experienced with each one - just new to the idea of regularly carrying one on my person at all times :)

Welcome from South Carolina...
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it.
