Greetings from SE PA
Love the forum and all the great information and informed participants. It has already become my first stop when I get a chance to get online. My wife and I recently applied for our PA LTCF. We have had basic safety and have been shooting for the past few months. We found a range to join and we are looking for classes.
My question is should we make our purchase before going to classes (we are renting various models to see what we like) or get the training first? I thought it may be better to train with the gun we are going to eventually carry. My plan was to make our purchase when we are comfortable but leave them locked up except for range time and classes until we have some more training. Thoughts?

It is nice to have the option of renting before buying. If you find a weapon in this fashion that suits you and your wife it does not matter much when you purchase it.

Welcome from Delaware! I'd wait until I find what I want to purchase, and then get it, if that's before or after the class it's ok. It would be nice to train with what you will be using though.

Welcome from Michigan!
It kind of depends on what class you'll be taking. If it is just a basic safety/handling class, I wouldn't worry about it much. If you have progressed to an actual self defense with a firearm course, then you might be ahead to train with your intended firearm.

Welcome. And what RoadRunner said.
I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it.

Welcome from South Carolina...
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.
