    Kel-Tec P11 Malfunctions ?

I have a new Kel-Tec P11. I'm having problems with the cartridge not loading into chamber. It seems to be only hollow points the malfunction. I have read posts on the net that have said just take the gun out and shoot it. Well I have taken the gun to the range, and shot 100 rounds through it. Took the gun home and cleaned it real good, loaded the gun back up with hollow points and again the gun jams up. Also when this happends, I can't pull back the slide to extract the round from the chamber. Any ideas ? What would be a good self defense FMJ load ? Thanks drainbamage

    Welcome from Virginia.

Problem could be one of several. Feed ramp may need polished, or problems with the magazine itself, or both. Did the gun come with more than 1 magazine. If so does it do it with all magazines?

    Welcome.

How are you loading the round into the chamber, are you pushing the slide release lever or are you racking the slide back?

The gun only came with the 1 mag. I'm racking the slide back. the load won't load into chamber, it looks like its not popping up far enough all the way to load in the barrel. I will use a small screw driver to pop up the shell into place and it loads. But aftewr it loads, I can't pull slide back to extract the shell.

Sometimes the JHP that have the wide mouth can cause problems. Try some other brand of JHP and see if they will feed well. You can try the Remmington Green/ White Box that is sold at Walmart and Dick's Sporting Goods as they seem to have the smaller HP opening. I hope this helps. God Bless

You may want to try the "fluff and buff" treatment that many Kel Tec pistols seem to need. A quick google search will show how to get it done.

You could also try racking the slide with a little more force.

Good advice, but don't spend a god awful amount of time on it, go back to the dealer and have them ship it back to KT.

    Welcome from Wisconsin, drainbamage!

You've received good advise, all worth a try but the best is to take it back to the dealer or at least call Kel-Tec. They might have some ideas or tell you to send it back for repair/replacement. They might even have some ideas on which ammo to use.

Did you get an expended brass cartridge along with your gun? Look at the bottom to see what brand of ammo they used for the test fire. You can try that same brand to start with but most ammo manufacturers make so many different types that it might not tell you anything. Just a thought because my gun (S&W Sigma 40VE) came with Federal brass & that's what I started with/use & have had no problems.

    My P11 shoots well.

You should have another mag anyway, go get one.
Then try and see if it still does it.
    If so, then
    I would send it back.

The "fluff and buff" is a terrific way to get most pistols functioning properly. At least, that's been my personal experience with a host of different pistols and manufacturers. Many of my problems were FTF and FTE and just a gritty, sticky feel to the slide as I worked it back and forth. A good "fluff and buff" worked every single time for me. YMMV, of course.

    Welcome from South Carolina...
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

Your problem is that it is a Kel Tec.

Save up and buy a qulity pistol. I went through a lot trying to get my PF9 to work and after wasting a lot of money on ammo for testing I could never trust it and gave up trying to get the POS to work.
