Got the plain Jane iron sight .380. They were out of laser equipped LCPs.
As far as critters and such, we have the occasional wild dog, snakes, hobo's, drunk teens and other small things plus it will be for CC protection.
At the range I did ok, getting 10 out of 12 well grouped in an 8 inch plate at 15 yards.. I think that 10 yards is the Max I would pull it out for protection unless I am looking at their barrel

Crimson trace works well except as other posters said in really bright sunshine.
Hogue makes a grip that fits the crimson trace button and the grip will help with the recoil!
