Stationed in Illinois - Which means no concealed carry for me...

Meh. Being stationed in Illinois takes all the fun out of the game.

Anyway, I'm new to the forums but not new to guns or the lawful carry/concealment of them. I love to shoot; shells, rounds, arrows, whatever! I've even been known to fling a few rounded stones from the oft-neglected slingshot! (At the squirrrrrrrrels, of course!)

I like anything in .45 ACP, 9 mm, and .223 REM/5.56 mm. My personal favorites are my dad's old Star PD45 and my Taurus MilPro PT145.

I'm originally from Nebraska and have been stationed in Colorado, the Republic of Korea, Kentucky, Georgia, and Illinois. (Not necessarily in that order... but, almost!) I've been TDY to more places than I can remember and deployed to more places than I can forget.

Thanks for having me. I am looking forward to kicking my feet up at the campfire and soakin' up the stories and engaging in great discussions! Hopefully, I will be able to contribute to some...

Welcome from Wisconsin, Cav Scout! My condolences for your present assignment. Maybe your next one will be in a 2A friendly state. We were in the same situation until last November when our concealed carry law was passed. Illinois is the last holdout. What a difference a new Governor & State Legislation can make. Get your WI CCL, try to TDY or PCS to Ft. McCoy & carry all you want to. A DD 214 or proof of service & 50 bucks is all it takes. Actually I'm unsure of residency requirements. - fairly sure a nonresident can get our CCL.

Welcome from a fellow Illinois resident. I feel your pain. Even though we're nowhere near Crook county we have to play by their ridiculous gun laws.

    Thanks, Top!

I don't know about Wisconsin! I hadn't been subjected to a Mid-West winter for so long I forgot how miserable anything more - or, would that be 'less'? - than 20-below zero was. My first winter here was '08... Forty-one below is bollocks! I'm thinking more along the lines of somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon! Then there was 2009; that blizzard was no joke. Or, was that 2010? Regardless, I'm pretty fond of Kentucky. That's were I belong. (Open Carry, too!)

R/E Wisconsin...I don't think they have nonresident permits for CCW but a LGS advertises classes for Utah CCW that have reciprocity with Wisconsin and would allow IL residents to carry there. I don't have personal experience though.

    Welcome from NJ.
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, "I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along." . . . You must do the thing you think you cannot do. Eleanor Roosevelt
