Nothing wrong with a .38, and an all-steel revolver (like a short-barrelled Smith & Wesson K-frame) will make the recoil of +P rounds very manageable. Not to be sexist about it, but I think it is the exceptional or the highly experienced female shooter who can handle the recoil of a .357 mag easily.

Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

Welcome to the forum from SW Ohio. Going to a range that rents guns and trying several different ones is a GOOD idea. "Sawing a few inches off the barrel of a shotgun" is a BAD idea! Do the first, DON'T do the second!
