Welcome from Alabama!
I don't have kids but can appreciate your dilemma. I'll bet if you search this forum you can probably get some good thought starters on what may be an acceptable solution for you.
My dad had guns and we were taught about them from a very early age and learned to appreciate them for what they are. This may be a place to start, even without a gun in the house.
Good luck and welcome aboard.

Welcome from NE Ohio. Grew up with guns in the house and we knew they weren't toys. While I knew they were there I can't recall ever seeing one lol. Never touched the things. My kids grew up with a loaded gun on the closet shelf. Dad would take it down and unload it anytime they were interested and wanted to see it. Something isn't a curiosity if you don't make it such. Heck my best friends father was on the local force. When he came home the gun and belt were taken off and put on top of the fridge lol. We talked a great deal about what could and would happen to a person if they were shot to our children. No reason to let children believe tv is real. They were taught guns are not toys and I didn't let them play with guns either. They did have every nurf gun out there lol. As you learn and become more comfortable you will think again and again about a gun in the house. You will also decide what is the best way to do this and keep everyone safe.

Welcome!
As for your learning, go at the pace you feel comfortable and learn everything you can. Guns and shooting isn't rocket science, but it is science (and physics). The psychology aspect of criminal behavior is the hard part.
