As a Seattleite, "I resemble that remark"! While the rest of the state regularly tells Seattle to [fill in the blank] off, what really saved us was that we have a decent state constitution that prevented the overzealous mayor from enforcing parks as unarmed victim zones.
Fairly recently, a map of concealed permit holders was published by KIRO news (MAP: Concealed weapon permits | www.kirotv.com) shows that in my zip code, there are 386 permit holders, which is 1.8%, or roughly one in fifty. Frankly, I'm surprised it is that high. I guess everyone is following the golden rule: always carry, never tell!
People were really in a uproar over it too in the comments section of the Times. The feeling was that the defenseless could be targeted. It was good to see that the result was a wise one. Increase in prove section of gun possession crimes by the Fed, rather than the usual plea deals that erase them

Hello, Olga, and welcome from Missouri to a really great forum - and this great land. Good people and info here! I believe your story would be fascinating to hear, and hope to learn it some time.
I am unknowing regarding the use of knives in the self defense arena, but hoepfully others can guide you. I also recommend you check out the many free YouTube videos made by Massad Ayoob, a world-class instructor, who has recorded training sessions in Judicious Use of Force, Shoot to Live, Home Invasion, Preparation for Home Defense, and What to Do After a Shooting. Just Google his name and these topics and the YouTubes should show up. His instruction is geared to use of handguns, but there may be some application for your chosen weapon of self defense.
And, best wishes for a safe, prosperous New Year to you and yours.
Welcome from across the pond (east King County)! Some good advice from this group! I think you are OK with the blade you have. I carry a small folder too, but my EDC is a .45. :image035:
