Hi from Central Texas
Hello. I'm a newbie to put it mildly. I'm a 36 year old man and shot a handgun for the first time two days ago. A relative and his friends took me to the range and did a wonderful job of introducing me.
Started with a .22 single action revolver and worked my way up to a .45 1911.
Looking forward to learning from everyone and getting some advice on acquiring my first firearm.

Welcome from Wisconsin!
Choosing a handgun is a very personal Choice. You'll get plenty of opinions on which is best & worse but you'll have to make the choice all by yourself. You have a good start by shooting several guns in different calibers. Continue your training. Make your decision by doing research, try as many guns you can, decide how much you want to pay & whether you'll just use the gun for sport shooting, home defense or concealed carry or all of the above.
My recommendations - anything Glock or M&P. I say that because I'm familiar with several of each brand & they've been reliable. I recommend .40 cal but that's because it's the caliber I've settled on. I wouldn't turn down a good deal on a 1911 or 9MM but this way I can stock one caliber & buy some whenever I have spare money & there's a good deal on it. Depending on what you want to use the gun for there is no bad caliber. Absolutely nothing wrong with .22 if you just want to punch holes in paper but for self defense it's not the best choice. 9MM/.38sp/.357 would be the smallest I'd go but that's my opinion & decision. 9MM is a bit cheaper than .40 cal. Then if you were to get, say, an M&P40C like I'm waiting for delivery of you can swap barrels with .357sig & even are able to use the same .40 cal magazines or get a 9MM barrel but then you would need separate mags. If I decide to go 9MM I'd have to calculate how much money I'd really save on ammo costs after buying a 9MM barrel & 9MM mags.
Good luck in your choosing a firearm.
