If you haven't already, I'd recommend reading the book "In The Gravest Extreme", by Massad Ayoob: In the Gravest Extreme: The Role of the Firearm in Personal Protection: Massad F. Ayoob: 9780936279008: Amazon.com: Books It covers the legal aspects of what does and does not constitute justifiable lethal force (ability, opportunity, jeopardy), and provides examples and scenarios. If your enhanced carry instructor is like mine, he will decline to provide anything resembling legal advice, and will suggest you consult with an attorney (which is also a good idea).

Good luck and welcome to DC!

Hello, CapnBo, and welcome from Missouri to a really great forum. Good people and info here!

Since you gleaning info on this self defense arena, check out the many free YouTube videos made by Massad Ayoob, a world-class instructor, who has recorded training sessions in Judicious Use of Force, Shoot to Live, Home Invasion, Preparation for Home Defense, and What to Do After a Shooting. Just Google his name and these topics and the YouTubes should show up. Lots of good instructional info on them, and free.

And, best wishes for a safe, prosperous New Year to you and yours.
