new on board from MS
Howdy y'all,
Reached a point in my life that I no longer feel comfortable unarmed in public and able protect my family and grandchildren. I have shot handguns, rifles and shotguns since age 8 growing up hunting with my father and relatives in MS.
I have started the defensive preparations by setting up an enhanced concealed carry class for early January, have a new Sig P220 carry elite on the way in .45acp (always wanted a compact auto), ordered 400 rounds of ammo, OWB holster and belt and spare clip holder and studying the US Army pistol marksmanship guide I downloaded online to start over again learning the basics the right way this time.
Look forward to gleaming as much information as possible on this site while I become proficient with the new gun and receive the concealed permits, before I start carrying for defensive purposes.
Joined the NRA today also to support our 2nd amendment rights battle we as a nation are facing. Any suggestions or comments as to what I might have overlooked in this initial preparation stage would be well taken and appreciated.

Welcome aboard! Love me some P220.
I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it.

Welcome fellow Mississippian. You'll find what you're looking for here I believe. Might even get some comments re: "spare clip holder". LOL Again, welcome.

Welcome from South Carolina...
Just so you don't get flamed to bad in the future...It's called a "magazine or mag" and NOT a "clip"...Do some extensive reading on here and you shuld begin to get the basics down. After you get your concealed carry permit, make sure you then do some serious research and take some training from a "reputable" training source in regards to "defensive pistol" or "fighting pistol"...
Good luck ias your journey begins...
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Don't take it too seriously about treating others the way you want to be treated. I want to be treated like crap & everyone refuses to do so, lol.
It seems you're off to a good start on getting to know your firearm & how to shoot it. I have to look up the Army Pistol Marksmanship FM to see what changes were made, if any. I used to teach Basic Pistol Marksmanship to officers who are typically the main carriers of them, as well as Basic Rifle Marksmanship training in the Army. Transitioned from the 1911 .45 to the M9 Beretta. I still like a good 1911. Sure would like to have one.
